POLAR BEAR TRIP
We had heard a lot about global warming and that the polar crust is melting and the polar bears are endangered and might become extinct. Based on this we took a trip to Churchill, Manitoba, Canada in November 2007 to see for ourselves. Churchill is in the sub-arctic just below the Arctic Circle and has a population of only 500 people. A large population of polar bears congregate there every year in November awaiting the first freeze of Hudson's Bay. The day after our arrival we took a helicopter ride towards the North Pole to really begin to see if the stories we had read about the polar bears were true. It was spectacular scenery but unfortunately we did confirmed that there are few polar bears left and that they will most likely be extinct one day and probably sooner rather than later. On the day before we were going to leave Churchill, we sat by the window of our motel having breakfast and looked out onto the main road. Suddenly we saw a strange light coming through the restaurant window. Since I am a professional photographer I immediately grabbed my camera and went outside to observe this strange phenomenon which was a little scary but truly amazing. I saw a beautiful sign of the Cross surrounding the sun. I documented this beautiful scene with my camera on November 8th, 2007 at 8:13 am. It was rare and moving. I have been an avid traveler and photographer for over 30 years and have visited many countries around the globe taking pictures. I have never experienced anything like this? Is God trying to tell us something? I think He is and wants us to appreciate and care for the spectacular world He has blessed us with and protect of all the creatures that inhabit it.
