Travel Insurance

TRAVEL PHOTOS

It is important to consider travel insurance when planning a trip.  Of course, it is a personal choice as to how much risk you are willing to bear and whether you feel travel insurance is necessary for you.  We suggest that you first understand the cancellation policy for the travel you are purchasing.  If it is just a car or hotel reservation, you may be able to cancel or change without any cost.  Make sure you understand the policies around this when you book.  If it is an airline reservation, again depending on which type of ticket you bought, you may be able to cancel or reschedule with limited costs or you may have a non-refundable ticket which may merit some sort of insurance.  For those big trips here and abroad, we always buy travel insurance.  Most of the reputable touring and/or travel planning companies offer travel insurance and, of course, like you to purchase it at the time the travel is booked.  We suggest you do your home work before you purchase travel insurance.  We always take theses steps:

1.      Determine the risk you are willing to bear and decide if you will purchase travel insurance for any or all of your travel components.

2.      Once you have established what and how much you want covered, compare the policies that are offered.  We believe our affiliate listed below is the best place to make that comparison.

3.      Review the details of the coverage provided by top contenders.  Don’t assume the cheapest price is the one you should take.  Make sure it has the coverage you want and need.  We especially look at the medical coverage; cancel at any time clause and the process for making a claim (some are onerous).

4.      Once you select your coverage we would suggest you read the whole policy to be sure you are getting what you expected.

5.      Ask any remaining question you might have of the insurance provider.  Our affiliate acts as an intermediary to the insurance companies and will help answer any of your questions so that you don’t have to call multiple insurance companies.

6.      Purchase your policy.
